Our Mission

Global Geospatial Institute is dedicated to providing parents, students, and teachers the support they need to succeed in the field of study, geospatial technology. We provide an engaging, rigorous, hands-on learning culture that develops innovative 21st Century citizens to compete in an ever-changing world.

The Global Geospatial Institute (GGI) team offers spatial education though state-of-the-art technology. We strive to put Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) technology in the hands of as many students as we can.

By utilizing hands-on project based learning, real world problem solving and service learning, we aim to provide students with a future career track. We start by introducing GIS to K-12, especially middle school students, in a variety of ways. High school students can then register for a GIS course to ultimately obtain a GIS IBC (Industry-Based Certification). Currently, the GIS IBC is in two Jump Start Pathways; Manufacturing Construction Crafts and Logistics Pathway and Environmental Protection and Sustainability Pathway. Global Geospatial Institute is the only industry accredited program in the State of Louisiana that prepares high school students and lifelong learners with the tools they need to advance in workforce development and compete in a global job market.

About Our Founder

Fran HArvey, gisp

Fran Harvey, GISP, is the Managing Director of Global Geospatial Institute (“GGI”) f/k/a Louisiana Remote Sensing and GIS Institute. With the vision to offer students the newest science and technology through spatial education, Harvey led GGI to become the only industry accredited program in the State of Louisiana that prepares high school students with the tools they need to compete in a global job market.

Within the past 3 years, Harvey’s efforts to positively affect students who are yearning to learn current and relevant technologies. These educational outreach efforts have resulted in 35 school districts and several hundred teachers who have been introduced and trained in GIS applications. Dozens of schools now have the ability to utilize the ArcGIS online application software, offered by ESRI, at no cost to the schools.

One of the biggest lessons learned from our educational outreach is that when GIS is presented to our students, the students “get it” as if they are already wired to process this information. The proof of this concept led Harvey to further commit to finding a path to include GIS as part of high school curriculum. In June 2017, LA RS GIS Institute, d/b/a Global Geospatial Institute (GGI), a nonprofit corporation became the only organization approved as an accredited entity to offer a GIS IBC to high school students.
